The Children’s Home of Jefferson County has been awarded $1,600 thanks to the efforts of the Thousand Islands Chapter of the Warrant Officers Association, Fort Drum.

A 5K race was held at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan to raise the funds for the children’s home.

The event was organized by CW2 Robert P. Sullivan while he served in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division.

During his off duty hours, he raised the funds by selling run T-shirts to fellow soldiers participating in the event held in August 2011. The T-shirts were collected, packaged and shipped from Fort Drum to Afghanistan by W01 Daniel Lobue.

The donation was recently presented to Children’s Home of Jefferson County Director of Community Services, Matthew Elliott.
