10th Mountain Division Soldiers are once again the target of a scam.

The 10th Mountain Division has issued a warning to all military members and their families regarding forms that are being sent asking them to ‘register’ their fiancées with Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS).

The form is urging military members to register their fiancées for a $350 fee.

“Other than taking that next step to legal marriage, there is no way to give fiancées federal benefits as a dependent of a service member,” said Julie Cupernall, Director of Fort Drum Public Affairs. “This is a scam, plain and simple.”

The Army and 10th Mountain Division published on social media site Facebook that the scam is “not a function of DFAS or DOD.”

“In my experience it seems these scams fall into two categories - the first pray on the good will of people concerned for the well being of our fighting men and women, and we certainly have a lot of that good will here in the North Country.  The second category goes after people who are new to the military, either as a Soldier or as a Family member.  They use the right words and symbols to steal money.  But be assured - sending money to a non .gov or .mil email or web site is wrong,” Cupernall told MyABC50.com.

Anyone that has received this form should not reply.
