It was a special day for a Vietnam veteran who was honored during a ceremony at the 4th Battalion, 31 Infantry Regiment headquarters building.

Chester Larson served as part of the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, or the “Polar Bears.”

Larson was honored with the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with V device & oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart, Valorous Unit Citation (for service with the Polar Bears from November 1967 to February 1968), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Friday, Larson was awarded a plaque that will be hung with other of his fellow service members who fought in Vietnam on the Polar Bear’s Wall of Heros.

Larson says that he is truly honored by the award, as many of the men he returned home from Vietnam never had this opportunity.
