Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Lawyers on both sides of the defamation suit against Syracuse University and Jim Boeheim are appearing in a Manhattan court today. The hearing was scheduled to being at 10 a.m.
Boeheim and SU are being sued by two men who say they were sexually abused by former assistance coach Bernie Fine. Accusers Bobby Davis and Mike Lang claim they were unfairly accused of lying about it, prompting the lawsuit.
Also, the battle wages on about where the arguments should be heard. Boeheim’s lawyers think the case should be handled in Syracuse, but the lawsuit was filed in New York City. Davis and Lang’s attorney’s lashed out in court papers Thursday, saying, “They instead seek to have the motion to transfer venue as a priority so they can enjoy a home court advantage.”
And, an associate SU professor told NewsChannel 9 the school is forming a committee to take a second look at how the school handles investigations of misconduct. It was prompted by the university’s 2005 investigation of sex abuse allegations against Fine.
