SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Behind a solid first half that ended on a 31-4 run, #8/8 Syracuse (22-4, 10-3) surged past Providence (14-12, 6-8) 84-59, for its 38
th consecutive home court victory on Wednesday evening in the Carrier Dome. The Orange winning streak is the longest active run in the nation.

James Southerland led the offense tallywith 20 points each. Fair combined his scoring with 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season. Sophomore
Michael Carter-Williams posted his eighth double-double of the campaign, totaling 15 points and 12 assists.
With the score tied at 12-12 and 10:10 left in the opening period, Syracuse broke the contest open with a 31-4 run. Southerland had 14 points, Fair added seven and reserve
Trevor Cooney had back-to-back baskets during the hot stretch.
The Orange constructed a 27-point lead for a 43-16 advantage at the intermission.
Syracuse built its advantage as high as 30 points early the second half, but the Friars only came within 20 points of the Syracuse advantage twice. SU halted both attempts, including a final effort at 66-48, following two free throws from Kadeem Batts with 7:35 remaining in the game.
Leading by 25 with 2:34 left to play, coach Boeheim cleared the bench, as the Orange cruised to an 84-59 victory.
The Orange will remain home this week, hosting Georgetown in a sold out showdown on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. Syracuse is currently in a three-way tie with the Hoyas and Marquette for first place in BIG EAST.
Previously Reported:Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Orange fans may already be looking toward Saturday’s game against Georgetown, but the Syracuse University men’s basketball team first has to get past Providence Wednesday night at the Carrier Dome.
Although they are 6-7 in Big East Conference play, the Friars have won four straight in conference.
Providence is 14-11 overall.
The Orange – ranked No. 8 in both major polls – are coming off of a 76-65 win over Seton Hall in New Jersey. SU is 21-4 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
Senior guard Brandon Triche is leading the Orange with 14.9 points per game. The Jamesville-DeWitt graduate scored a career high 29 points in the win over the Pirates.
Junior forward CJ Fair has 14 points per game.
Bryce Cotton is leading the Friars with 20.4 points per game.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPN3.
