The Jefferson County SPCA has been in headlines over the last month after Executive Director Peggy Hinz was fired from her position.

The SPCA board of directors didn’t have much to say on the matter, only that Hinz had not met the expectations of their 360 review and position guidelines.

In a public letter sent by Hinz, she said her professional reputation was tarnished by the SPCA board of directors.

Now it is being reported that a lawsuit has been filed by Hinz against the SPCA for defamation and wrongful termination.

“We are having a board meeting tonight,” said Amy Saiff, a member of the SPCA board. “A letter from an attorney has been given to someone at the shelter, but I can’t comment since I don’t know.”

Saiff said she is not sure if the board of directors will release a public statement after their meeting tonight.

MyABC50.com has contacted Hinz’s lawyer but has received no answer at this time.

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
