The most annoying auto emergency there is has to be locking the keys in the car. If a lockout occurs, remember that new cars are much harder to break into and try trying can often result in damage to the car. Some police officers carry devices to unlock doors, but they don't always work, especially with electric locks. If all else fails, a locksmith can usually unlock a car, but the fee can be high. The best way to avoid the whole mess is by establishing some sort of routine. For instance, use the keys to lock the door instead of using the inside levers. Or, always make sure the keys are in your hand. Never put the keys in your pocket or purse until you're outside the car. The trunk is an even worse place to lock your keys. Never place them inside the trunk. A second set of keys stored in a safe place is a good idea.
