2 residents of an Assisted Living Home in Canton arrested for drugs
Canton -- Police in Canton have arrested 2 men while investigating suspected drug activity on Law Lane in the village.
Canton Village Police say 26 year old Zachary Racine of 64 Law Lane was charged with Criminal Possession of a controlled substance 5th Degree intent to sell (D felony) and Criminal Possession of a hypodermic instrument (A Misdemeanor). Racine was remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail on $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond.
Also charged was 23 year old Patrick Fender of 38 Law Lane. Fender was charged with Criminal Possession of a hypodermic instrument (A Misdemeanor). Fender was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in town court on January 4th.
Both men reside at an Assisted Living Program home on Law Lane which functions to help recovering addicts.
The St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force along with the help of the Sheriff's K-9 Hershey, assisted in the investigation after the dog alerted them to Racine's vehicle after it was stopped by village police. Police found bundles of heroin and hypodermic needles in the vehicle search.
The investigation is ongoing and police say more charges are pending.
