AAA customers in the North Country should not be relying on a new service offered called “Tipsy Tow.”

Information is spreading quickly on Facebook about the service. Many reposts can be seen on the social media network informing friends and family members that if they are a little tipsy on New Years Eve AAA will pick them up and deliver them home for free. This is not the case.

The spreading Facebook repost states:

“NO excuses, folks. Don't drink and drive- and don't ride with anybody who does. Tipsy Tow offered by AAA: You don't have to be a AAA member, from 6pm-6am on New Year's Eve/Day they will take your drunk self and your car home for FREE. Save this number... 1-800-222-4357. Please re-post this if you don't mind to help save lives. Nationwide.”

But that is not the case and AAA’s national website recently released:

“While not a nationwide program, a number of AAA clubs offer Tow-to-Go or Tipsy Tow service during certain holidays for members and nonmembers. This service is not available everywhere. AAA strongly encourages family and friends to pick a designated driver before they head out on New Year’s Eve.”

In Northern New York, those attending parties and clubs will have to find an alternative way to get home safely.
