Charges reduced for Ukranian woman accused of fleeing the U.S. with her son
(Nathan Lehman WTNY) -- A Ukranian woman accused of taking her son out of the North Country, violating a custody agreement with the father, is now facing reduced charges in the incident. A Jefferson County grand jury has returned two charges against 39 year old Svetlana Sorokina. They are second degree custodial interference and second degree criminal contempt, both misdemeanors. Sorokina was arrested by police when she reentered the country this past spring. She is alleged to have violated a custody agreement by taking her 10 year old son out of the country and back to the Ukraine in July 2010. The boy remains in that country. The child's father is John Moody of Watertown.
