Watertown— There are 50 ski resorts in the state of New York and within driving distance from the North Country. However, 8 out of the 50 ski resorts are open. Right here in Watertown, New York Dry Hill has officially opened their slopes to ski buffs.

If you are looking to ski and you are local, why drive hours away when you can enjoy skiing right at home. Owner of Dry Hill Tim McAtee said, “We weren’t even sure we would be open today. We made the decision yesterday when we realized we had made enough snow.”

Dry Hill has 8 artificial snowmaking machines positioned throughout the trail, which uses water and compressed air. The snow machines have been working around the clock since Thanksgiving, making snow to prepare for today’s opening.

“We make snow here ourselves, we make snow every chance we can and this is the first day that we’ve had a trail from top to bottom”, said McAntee. After determining they had enough snow on the trails, Dry Hill officially opened their slopes at 11 a.m. this morning.

Dry Hill offers 10% military discounts for military members and their families or $2 off tickets with a military I.D. Rates are posted on the Dry Hill website. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Folks can enjoy skiing day and night, you can also warm up before the Fireside Lounge with food and drinks available.
