Fatal Fire leaves Alexandria Bay Firefighters looking for a cause

Alexandria -- The house fire was reported at approximately 6:17pm on Saturday.  First Responders and Fire Personnel responded to the scene at at 44014 County Route 2 in the Town of Alexandria where they found 72 year old Robert Cheesman who was subsequently transported to River Hospital in Alexandria Bay. 

Cheesman, who was the only person present at the time of the fire, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
 
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, preliminary investigation has initially ruled out foul play, as the fire is believed to be accidental. 
 
Alex Bay Fire and Ambulance, TIERS, Guilfoyle Ambulance, Redwood Fire, Plessis Fire, Clayton Fire, Hammond Fire, Theresa Fire, Evans Mills Fire, Pamelia Fire, LaFargeville Fire and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department all assisted at the scene.
