Fatal car accident in the Town of Hammond

Hammond -- At approximately 6:00 Thursday night, Ogdensburg based State Police investigated a one car motor vehicle fatal accident on State Hwy 37 in the Town of Hammond.

Police say the deceased, 21 year old Cory Eiland of Deland, FL was passing an uninvolved vehicle while eastbound on State Hwy 37 when he crossed the west bound lane and exited the north shoulder of the roadway striking a tree.

Hammond Fire and Rescue responded to the scene along with St. Lawrence County Coroner R.B. Lawrence. Eiland was pronounced deceased at the scene and transported to Claxton Medical Center pending an autopsy. 

The cause of the accident is pending investigation.
