Fort Drum Soldiers to deploy after the new year
Fort Drum -- The 10th Mountain division is preparing for a deployment.
The 1st Brigade Combat Team is one of three major units headed to Afghanistan this winter. Fort Drum Public Affairs office issued a press release yesterday stating that roughly 1,400 soldiers will depart for Afghanistan early in 2013. The statement mentions that the 1st Brigade Combat Team will serve as a Security Force Assistant Brigade, with the primary mission, “to advise Afghan units and help them achieve levels of proficiency where they can lead and conduct independent security operations”.
Col. Stephen Michael says that the Brigade is fully prepared for the deployment.
