Governor to propose new gun control measures in today's State of the State address
Albany (WTNY) -- New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is expected to propose one of the country's most restrictive bans on assault weapons during his State of the State address today.
Cuomo is pushing to have New York become the first in the nation to put new gun laws into play following the deadly Newtown mass shooting. New York is one of several states that already ban at least some assault weapons but Cuomo wants to expand the number of guns and magazines that fall under the existing law.
He also wants to make it harder for gun makers to make changes in their weapons to circumvent the ban.
