(See updated story by clicking on related link at right.)A St. Lawrence County man was fatally shot during a robbery attempt early Tuesday morning, according to Sheriff Kevin Wells.
A 911 call sent deputies to 649 Porter Lynch Road in the town of Stockholm about 12:45 a.m.
31-year old Daniel Simonds, who lives there had been shot in the torso. He died about 7:10 a.m. in a Burlington Hospital.
The suspects, about three in all, fled in one or more vehicles, Sheriff Wells said. Their direction of travel is unknown.
The Sheriff said there was an altercation between Simonds and the would-be robbers leading up to the shooting. Other people in the house were not involved and were not injured, he said.
The altercation and shooting happened near the front of the residence.
