A 23-year-old Watertown man has been arrested after stealing multiple items from Samaritan Medical Center and possessing multiple controlled substances.

Nicholas M. Schafer, of Rutland Street, was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th.

According to Watertown Police, Schafer stole a total of 160 pieces of medical equipment from the Critical Care Room 2 trauma cart in the emergency room. Schafer placed the items in clear bags and left the hospital, despite being told not to by hospital staff. Items included: Anti-Reflux valve, Adult Nasal Connector, 25 gauge needles, and other medical supplies.

While being arrested Schafer was also located with Ambien, Ativan and Klonopin, all class 4 controlled substances in an Altoid box located in his left front pocket.

Schafer was transported to the Public Safety Building and processed, where he is being held on $500 police bail pending arraignment.
