Two Cornwall Island men tried to smuggle $1 million worth of ecstasy through the Massena Port of Entry, according to federal officials quoted by the Daily Courier-Observer.

The paper said the bust was made Wednesday as the two men and their vehicle were referred to a secondary inspection.

U.S. Border officers using a contraband detection device called a "Buster" found 50,000 pills - about 33 pounds - in the vehicle's spare tire.

In federal custody are 53 year old Mitchell David and 50 year old Silas Benedict.

The pills were packaged in 50 plastic sandwich bags, the report said.
