Most NY Gun Show organizers agree with new rules
(WTNY) -- Most of New York's gun show operators have agreed to abide by the state's new rules meant to ensure that weapon sales are properly tracked.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says 23 operators have agreed to follow the "Model Gun Show Procedures" while another five operators are still reviewing them. Two others agreed to the rules last year. The rules require that all guns brought to shows are tagged and checked later to determine whether they were sold and a background check was run on the buyer.
The rules also limit the number of entrances to shows and call for law enforcement to be notified when shows are happening so that they can patrol the area to prevent illegal sales outside of the shows.
A new bill is also being pushed that would ban children from gun shows in New York State.
Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal's proposal would bar children under the age of 12 from entering a gun show in the Empire State. Rosenthal says society has placed reasonable restrictions on children watching violent films or playing video games, but they currently have unfettered access to gun shows.
