Murder suspect Christopher Burke is considered an escape risk at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

The categorization is primarily based on his actions since being remanded to the jail on Saturday.

"He's been a bit of a problem," said jail Lt. Donald Pierce, declining to give specifics.

Being an escape risk means additional shackling and more officers assigned to Burke when he is transported.

Meanwhile, Burke is being evaluated today for possible transfer to a secure mental hygiene facility, Lt. Pierce told NewsWatch50.

Burke, 25, Cape Vincent is charged with 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

State Police say he shot and killed EMT volunteer Mark Davis after the Cape Vincent ambulance squad was called to Burke's apartment Friday evening.

Burke is being represented by the Jefferson County Public Defenders office.
