NYS Senate passes measure for tougher gun laws
Albany (WTNY) -- Gun laws in the state of New York are undergoing a change to make them tougher.
Lawmakers have passed a measure in the Senate, making New York the first state to take legislative action in the aftermath of the shooting massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says the school shooting in Newtown helped galvanize public opinion in favor of increased gun control.
The measure now heads to the state Assembly, where Silver says he's confident it will become law.
