(Northern NY (WTNY) -- New York State is getting 27-million dollars in federal grants to hire workers to help clean up from superstorm Sandy.

State Labor Commissioner Peter Rivera says the money will put more than five thousand unemployed New Yorkers to work.  Rivera says they will hire young and unemployed people to help in Queens, Staten Island, Long Island, the lower Hudson Valley and other areas hit hard by Sandy.
