Watertown— In a financial move that will save approximately $2 billion annually, the United States Post Office announced that mail would no longer be delivered on Saturdays come August.

Postmaster General and CEO Patrick R. Donahoe told a press conference, "Our financial condition is urgent." For individuals who count on expecting their mail on Saturday, the news comes as a disappointment.

However, ABC50 spoke with one North Country resident that didn’t seem to mind. “I just now found out about the Post Office not delivering on Saturdays” said Shannon Oney, “to be honest, it doesn’t at all affect me. I really don’t see what the big deal is.”

Charles Bolse and Joe Dupre, both North Country natives told ABC50 that they count on receiving their mail on Saturdays because of their work schedules. Although there will be no mail delivered on Saturdays, packages will continue to be delivered 6 days a week.

If you have a post office box, you will still have mail delivered on Saturdays to your post office box. The post office will still be opened on Saturdays.
