No suspects have emerged in the investigation into a fatal shooting Tuesday morning in Stockholm, according to investigators.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department plans a press conference Wednesday afternoon to reveal the latest information on the case.

Detective Gus Burns said investigators haven't identified any suspects. "We're just running down leads," he said.

Three men accosted 31 year old Daniel Simonds outside his home along the Porter Lynch road shortly after midnight. The altercation moved just inside the front door of the house where the ex-Marine was shot once.

The Daily Courier Observer reported the weapon was a small caliber handgun. Simonds died about 7:10 a.m. Tuesday at Fletcher-Allen in Burlington.

The Courier Observer also reported the men wore hooded sweatshirts and bandannas. Detective Burns, however, said investigators aren't sure.

Other media speculation has centered on a possible link to drug dealing. However Sheriff's Department officials won't confirm that, either.

It's believed the three men left the scene in two dark-colored SUVs.

Several neighbors reported hearing the gunshot. One, however, said he didn't think anything of it, assuming it could be a vehicle backfiring.

Simonds had moved into the neighborhood with his family about six months ago, neighbors said.

It's believed he was an electrical contractor and may have run a business on the St. Regis Mohawk reservation.
