(myABC50.com/WSYR-TV) -- Heat builds in today as a warm front lifts to our north. With a lack of clouds, temperatures are expected to rise quickly, bringing many to near 90° by midday. Your thermometer could read a number in the mid 90s by this afternoon.

With a heat index that high, heat advisories remain in effect through this evening.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of heat and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possibile.

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay in an air conditioned room
  • Stay out of the sun
  • Check on relatives and neighbors
  • Wear light colored loose fitting clothes

A strong cold front approaches tomorrow afternoon bringing a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. Behind that front we’ll cool back to seasonable temperatures in the low 80s.
