Lowvilee (WWTI) -- A town judge in Lewis County was supposed to run for reelection last year, but never did and remained on the bench.

The problem is, no one in Lewis County noticed until recently.

The term of Lowville Town Judge John Youngs expired at the end of last year, but he and other officials in the county apparently forgot. As a result, the job was not on the ballot for last November's elections. The oversight was just recently discovered. As a result, any cases overseen by Youngs this year will have to be thrown out since he didn't have the legal authority as a judge at time. County and town officials say they are going about fixing the issue.

The town's second judge will oversee all cases for the time being.
