The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Bel Air Lighting Inc., has issued a voluntary recall on Bel Air outdoor wall mount lanterns after receiving reports of the lanterns catching fire.
Approximately 99,700 units, sold exclusively at Lowe’s Stores and in lighting showrooms nationwide, are included in the recall. The lanterns were sold for about $48 from June 2006 through May 2012.
An electrical short circuit can occur in the lanterns’ internal wiring, posing a risk of fire, burn and electric shock to the user.
Seven reports have been received including two reports of the lanterns catching fire. No injuries were reported.
Consumers should immediately discontinue use and contact Bel Air Lighting for a free replacement lantern.
