Lysander (WSYR-TV) – Emergency crews are responding to a drowning on the Seneca River near the Onondaga Lake Outlet.

According to State Police, two males and a female were on a boat, along with a pet dog.

At one point, the dog jumped into the water and became entangled in seaweed. The female on the boat jumped out to help the distressed dog, but she also became entangled in the seaweed.

A male on the boat - 60-year-old Frederick Luman - then jumped in the water with a life preserver.

He freed the female and the dog and they were both able to reach a nearby buoy, however, the male was unable to escape the water and died.

The incident occurred in the town of Lysander near the intersection of Hayes Road and Perryville Road.
