Watertown— “Many times we hear from older workers worried about having a hard time finding a job” said Executive Director of the Jefferson Lewis Workforce Investment Board, Cheryl A. Mayforth.
The WorkPlace will be holding a Silver Collar Workshop for older workers needing guidance on how to successfully find employment. “We try to tell older workers to describe their assets” said Mayforth, “we know that older workers have better attendance, they have a better work ethic, and they are dedicated.” Ms. Mayforth went on to stress how vital it is for older workers to sell their experience and skills.
“One stereotype is that older workers have outdated skills” said Mayforth, “but, that is simply not true. We tell people in this workshop to get their skills up to date if they are not.” The workshop has an average attendance of 6-8 older workers and is run by employment counselor, Fran Lueders.
The Following will be covered in the Silver Collar Workshop:
· Interviewing tips, including role playing
· Highlighting skills and experience on your resume
· Resume writing
· Selling your assets
The Silver Collar Workshop will take place at The WorkPlace in Watertown, New York. There is no specified age limit to attend. However, the workshop is geared towards older adults looking for employment.
