A Fort Drum soldier was taken into custody early Sunday, charged with several offenses, after a caller to 911 expressed concerns about the soldier’s mental stability.

Watertown police arrested Christopher D. Simmons Jr., 21, on charges of Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and Assault 2nd Degree when he was located by officers in a car at the Wendy’s restaurant on State Street at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police allege Simmons had hydrocodone and acetaminophen pills in his lap when officers approached his car.

According to information included with the WPD arrest report, Simmons is accused of struggling with officers when told he was under arrest. During the struggle an officer was bitten on the ring finger, breaking the skin.

Officers also allege Simmons did over $250 in damage to a patrol car when a door of the vehicle was kicked.

After processing at the PSB, Simmons was transported to the Samaritan Medical Center mental health unit.

Simmons was issued appearance tickets for City of Watertown Court on May 19th.

Police said Simmons was impaired by alcohol at the time of his arrest.
