WWTI -- Potsdam has been ranked No. 1 in Business First's new rankings of academic performance in the Tri-County Area.
The four runners-up in the three-county region are Beaver River, Canton,Thousand Islands and Parishville-Hopkinton.
Business First, a Buffalo business publication, today released its full academic rankings for the Watertown Area, which consists of 33 districts inJefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. (The study was limited to districts with enrollments of more than 260 students.)
Business First used a 192-part formula to generate the Watertown Area rankings, based on four years of standardized test scores from the New York State Education Department. The tests ranged from statewide exams for third
graders in English and math up to the full array of Regents exams for high schoolers.
Separate standings for eight markets will be combined on Thursday into master rankings for all of Upstate New York.
Business First has issued annual performance ratings for schools in Western New York since 1992. It added yearly rankings for the Rochester Area in 2010 and launched the Upstate ratings a year later.
