A Nice Winter Day

On this morning’s weather map, a weak cold front is draped across the northern half of New York State, which is responsible for some early day cloud cover and flurries.  As the day unfolds, the front will retreat north as a warm front.  In doing so, clouds will thin and flurries will dry and we’ll be left with some partial sun, and overall, a nice day.

Meanwhile, two separate weather systems will begin to approach the region from the west and southwest as they prepare to impact the region later tonight and tomorrow.  One system is an upper level low currently located over the southern Plain States, while the other is a cold front that is presently located over the northern Plain States.  The two will team up to bring snow showers to the region tonight and again Sunday afternoon.  We’re not expecting a lot of accumulation since there isn’t much moisture associated with the weather systems.  Additionally, temperatures tomorrow are expected to be above freezing for the much of the day.  In fact, it’s not unreasonable to see some light rain mix in for some locations.

After a brief shot of seasonably chilly air Monday, all signs point to a significant warm-up for the middle of the week.  Though the real question is how quickly moisture (and rain) returns to Central New York and the Northeast.  The battle lines are still drawn between our computer models as to whether Wednesday or Thursday will be the arrival date of some rain. The most consistency is coming from the model forecasting a dry Wednesday with showers returning for later in the week. We’ll keep you posted if there are any changes.
