Canton (WWTI) -- Canton Village Police are investigating the theft of an ATM from the entrance to the SLU Brewer Book Store.

Police say the theft occurred sometime Friday night/Saturday morning. Book store employees noticed the machine was missing when they opened the store Saturday morning but they believed it was removed for maintenance purposes.

The ATM belongs to Canton Federal Savings and Loan. Bank officials told police that the machine had been uploaded with funds on Wednesday. Police are not saying how much cash may have been stolen with the machine.

SLU security along with Canton Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the scene where the ATM was ripped from the floor and it's wires and cables cut or pulled from the machine. The 245 pound machine would have required at least 2 people to remove.

Canton Police are asking for help from anyone who might have been in the area Friday night into early Saturday morning. The Canton Police Department phone number is 386-4561.
