Albany lawmakers want to keep teens out of tanning booths
Albany (Nathan Lehman WTNY) -- A bill is making its way through Albany these days that would keep teens out of tanning booths. The bill would prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from using tanning beds at salons.
Current law only bans those younger than 14, and upper-age teens can use tanning beds with parental permission.
The bill has the support of the American Cancer Society, which says new state health statistics show an alarming increase in the number of melanoma cases in New Yorkers over a ten-year period.
