Watertown (WTNY) -- A Senior Assistant Jefferson County DA accused of driving while intoxicated has resigned from the DA's office.

District Attorney Cindy Intschert announced Wednesday afternoon that she accepted the resignation of Aaron Carr. Carr was arrested Tuesday evening on Coffeen St. in Watertown for aggravated DWI, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, and refusing a breath test.

Police pulled over a vehicle operated by Carr after receiving a report of a reckless driver. He allegedly had a BAC of .32%. Intschert says a special outside prosecutor will be brought in to handle Carr's case. Carr has reportedly accepted responsibility for his actions.

He told the "Watertown Daily Times" that he is an alcoholic and that there was no excuse for what happened.
