A staffer for a Republican State Senator is among three men accused of deceptively going into Darrel Aubertine campaign headquarters in Watertown, according to the Aubertine campaign.
The staff member is identified by the Aubertine campaign as Chris Luther, a constituent liaison for State Senator Tom Libous, Republican from Binghamton.
Luther was one of three Renzi campaigners who went into Aubertine's campaign headquarters on Saturday, leaving with campaign material including schedules and signs, according to the Aubertine campaign.
The men were followed to Renzi campaign headquarters where they were confronted, Aubertine campaigners say.
"As Darrel continues to talk to voters about jobs and the economy, the campaign will be discussing legal options with the appropriate law enforcement agencies," said Aubertine campaign coordinator Cort Ruddy.
Renzi spokesman Chris McKenna said that only in Watertown would this be news.
"I don't see how this is different from any other campaign," McKenna said.
McKenna said he didn't know the identity of the trio the Aubertine campaign has dubbed the "Renzi 3."
"There are dozens of people who come through this place (Renzi headquarters) every day," McKenna said.
"I didn't authorize anyone," McKenna said.
"My understanding is, this was a public event," he added, referring to an Aubertine campaign rally that took place inside Aubertine headquarters just before the incident took place.
