Boldt Castle, one of Northern New York's major tourist sites, will open for the season on Saturday, May 9th.

This year it features the rehabilitated bedroom suite that George Boldt would have occupied had he not halted work on the castle in 1904.

Work will be continuing through the 2009 season on adjoining second floor bedroom suites intended for Mr. Boldt's wife Louise and his daughter Clover.

During the 2008 season the rehabilitation of the 1,040 square feet dining room of the castle was completed.

The castle is on Heart Island, adjacent to Wellesley Island in the heart of the Thousand Islands. It's owned and operated by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority.

In its 32 years of ownership, TIBA has invested nearly $30 million in rehabilitation and improvements, according to the authority.

George Boldt, who made a fortune on hotels in New York City and Philadelphia, launched construction of the castle in 1900 as a gift for his wife. He stopped the work immediately upon Louise Boldt's death in early 1904.
