Canton men suspected of cocaine distribution

An investigation into drug sales at a Canton restaurant resulted in the arrest of two former Canton College of Technology students.

St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force officers arrested Ainsley N. “Ice” Edwards, 25, of 55 Sweeney Road, Potsdam on a charge of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree and Rafael Santos, 25, of 214 Randall Road, Lisbon on a charge of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree.

According to investigators, Edwards, owner of Leonie’s Jamaican Cuisine, allegedly sold over two ounces of cocaine to police operatives during the course of a two day investigation on Friday and Saturday.

Task Force officers also executed a search warrant at the home of Santos in the town of Waddington where 12 ounces of cocaine was found.

Officials said a total of 17 ounces of cocaine were recovered, valued at $45,000 and $5000 in cash was recovered.

Authorities believe the cocaine was being distributed in Canton, Potsdam and Ogdensburg.

Edwards and Santos were arraigned Saturday and both were remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail. Bail for Edwards was set at $15,000. Bail for Santos was set at $20,000.
