Chaumont man charged for fatal accident in June

A Jefferson County man has been charged in connection with a fatal accident back in June.

Today the Sheriff's Department charged 29 year old Leo Coleman Jr., with aggravated vehicular homicide, DWI, reckless driving, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Coleman was arraigned in Town of Watertown court and remanded to Jefferson County jail with bail set at $10,000. He immediately posted bail and was released.

On June 28th, 47 year old Robert Burkard was killed in a collision at County Routes 54 and 125 in the Town of Clayton. Burkard's wife Tammy, 43 was seriously injured.

Court documents charge that Coleman was going 81 mph when his car drifted left and caused the accident, according to The Watertown Daily Times. Coleman had an alleged blood alcohol content of .17 percent.

Coleman, also injured in the crash, was on crutches during his court appearance Thursday.
