Watertown (WTNY) -- While they still support plans for building an outdoor pavilion at the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park, members of the Watertown City Council are not fans of the price tag that comes with it.

It was learned over the weekend that the costs for tearing down the existing zoo aviary and replacing it with the pavilion would be about $435,000. During their work session Monday night, the council urged the city's engineer to search for savings for the project where possible. The council also agreed to send it out to bid, with the hope of completing it sometime this summer.

The zoo would use the pavilion for educational purposes as well as other functions.
