City Council pulls the plug on Charging Station
Watertown (WTNY) -- It didn't have the support of the Watertown City Council, and it apparently wouldn't have passed constitutional muster as well according to the city attorney.
Robert Slye told the city council Monday that the idea to provide a car charging station in downtown for free public use would likely go against the state constitution since it provided the electricity free of charge to the user. National Grid, as part of a state grant program, was instructed to set up electric car charging stations at a number of municipalities across the state.
Watertown was among those being considered. While the utility would have set up the station, the city would have been on the hook for paying for the power supply.
