Colder air returns tonight
(WSYR-TV) Our fling with unseasonably warm weather will come to an end but not until tonight.
For the rest of the afternoon, it will remain windy and mild. The winds will be out of the south into the evening and could gust to 40 mph at times.
Meanwhile, a strong cold front is approaching western New York this afternoon. This front will have a big impact on our weather tonight.
By 10pm a cold front will sweep east across the area and will be accompanied by some heavy rain. With winds remaining gusty during this time, we expect our weather to turn squally for a short time when the rain begins.
Along with the rain will come a quick drop in temperature. We may start the evening in the 60s but we will likely drop into the 40s by midnight!
Cooler air will move in overnight and by the time the steadiest precipitation moves out late tonight it is likely to change from rain to snow.
A much cooler day is on tap for tomorrow. We will struggle to rise into the low 40s and there will be a few lingering rain or snow showers.
