SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Shoppers are expected to spend $1.5 billion on Cyber Monday, the busiest online shopping day of the year. That is according to research firm comScore.
To make sure your personal information stays safe while you shop, Consumer Reports suggests you take these steps:
1.) Switch up your information between websites. This will minimize the chance that a hacker will be able to gain access to more than one of your online accounts.
- Never use the same password for multiple sites.
- Create and use separate e-mail addresses
2.) To help you remember the e-mail accounts you make, you can try making site-specific e-mail addresses like:
When you decide on a password, never use any part of your name or any other easily guessed word. Also, use a mix of letters, numbers and special characters like exclamation points and question marks.
