(Nathan Lehman WTNY) - It is the make or break day for the candidates for office. Election Day 2012 is here.

he eyes of the nation are on the race for the presidency, but local eyes are on the race for Congress. Democrat Bill Owens is looking for a second two year term in Washington while Republican Matt Doheny is hoping for the victory he didn't achieve two years ago. Both sides spent the day Monday revving up their base and campaigning in the eastern part of the 21st District, parts of which are unfamiliar to both candidates.

There are several other races to watch as well. State Senator Patty Ritchie is running for reelection. She is being challenged by Democrat Amy Tressidor. In the U.S. Senate, Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand is looking to win her first, full six year term. She is being challenged by Republican Wendy Long. Residents in Lewis County will choose a new county judge between Republican Daniel King and Democrat Kevin McArdle.
