Farmers Don't Like Them Apples: Production At Record Setting Lows
(Riley Keenan WTNY) -- Apple production in New York State is at its lowest level since 1948. According to the USDA, apple production in New York is forecast at 590 million pounds, which is 52 percent below the 1.22 billion pounds produced last year.
The forecast is the lowest production estimate since 1948.
The numbers for peach production are also far from peachy. The USDA estimates a 60 percent decrease in production from a year ago. A late spring frost and drought like conditions in the month of July are being blamed for the record setting numbers.
