Canton -- The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal car accident that occurred just before 4:00 Sunday afternoon.
According to police, 74 year old Eleanor Uffer of Potsdam was driving south west on Route 11 when she drifted into the northbound lane and struck a car being driven by 20 year old Zachary Benson, of Gouverneur.
Eleanor Uffer was taken to Canton Potsdam Hospital where she was pronounced dead by Dr. Riccardo Turrin. Benson was taken Claxton Hepburn Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and released. A passenger in the Benson Vehicle, Dominique Huckins was also treated for minor injuries at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center and released.
The investigation into the accident is continuing, police say the don't believe any charges are pending.
