Fatal house fire in Gouverneur

Gouverneur (WWTI) -- Volunteer Firefighters and rescue personnel were called to a house fire at 66 Austin Street in the Village of Gouverneur shortly after 11:00 last night.

Fire officials say by the time they arrived on the scene the house was "fully involved" and threatening nearby homes. The flames hampered attempts by rescue personnel to determine if anyone was inside the structure. They managed to locate one occupant, Brian Mandigo, who was pronounced dead at E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and an autopsy is pending.
