Sparks from a grinder led to a grass fire this afternoon in the Town of Pierrepont.

The fire broke out at the property owned by Ted Walrich on Sturtevant Road at around 1:13 pm. Pierrepont Fire and Colton Rescue with mutual aid from Colton, Hannawa Falls, Potsdam and Parishville responded to the scene.

The cause was traced to sparks from a grinder being used to grind nails.

While a press release from county fire officials said that Walrich's storage shed was destroyed by the fire, Mr. Walrich, in calls to NewsWatch50, said no building was damaged.

The property is covered by insurance. No injuries were reported.
