A blaze that broke out at 35 Quarry Rd. in the Town of Gouverneur has left a family of seven homeless.
Gouverneur firefighters were called out at 11:25 Sunday night to find a 2 story home heavily involved with fire.
At first there was a report that there may be people inside but an interior attack and search proved that not to be the case. The family of Jim and Angela King were away at the time of the fire because power to their home failed earlier due to the wind storm.
Gouverneur, Richville and Oxbow departments battled gusty winds that swept fire through the structure for over 6 hours.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries. Gouverneur Capt. Tom Conklin suffered minor burns to his ears and Firefighter Brian Stamper suffered a laceration to his hand.
The home was reported to be insured but was a total loss. The Gouverneur Fire Dept. is investigating the cause of the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
