Fire leaves Gouverneur family of four homeless
Gouverneur -- Shortly before 5:00am Tuesday morning John and Amanda Ulmen awoke to the smell of smoke in their Cream of the Valley Rd. home in the Town of Gouverneur. The family escaped the blaze by jumping out an upstairs window.
Fire officials say, Amanda Ulmen suffered a broken ankle, John Ulmen suffered a sprained ankle and their 2 children, a 3 year old and a 2 week old were transported for observation. All four suffered smoke inhalation.
The home was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home was insured.
